Chilean composer Martín Letelier is a promising new voice in the world of contemporary music. In 2020, he was nominated for a Pulsar Award (Premios Pulsar, Chile) in the category “Best Classical Artist of the Year” for his work “Ya no van a haber robots” (Soon There Will Be No Robots). The piece, for soprano and ensemble, is based on poems by Chilean writer Florencia Edwards and was premiered in Germany by singer Maria Portela, Ensemble Musikfabrik and conductor Elias Peter Brown.
During 2020, the AvantGarten Liedberg Festival (Germany) commissioned Letelier a piece for two a cappella sopranos, premiered last September. Likewise, the Chorakademie Dortmund commissioned and published a new choral work in the book “Chorbuch BTHVN 2020”, on the occasion of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. Projects for 2021 include a work to be premiered by the Asambura Ensemble (Germany), a solo piece for the renowned oboist Jose Luis Urquieta (Chile) and works featured in two upcoming CD’s, to be published by Duo Mutis (Japan) and Ignis Camerata Vocal (Chile).
